
The Boy Scouts of America teaches young people to be good citizens and trains them to become leaders. These qualities are found in many careers like astronauts and congressmen. There are records kept of famous scouts, see our list of famous scouts.
What would you like to be when you grow up? Maybe a scout will read your name on this list someday. If you stay with scouting and they may be reading all about you. Because scouting is so well known for making and teaching boys to be leaders having the rank of Eagle scout on your college application can actually help show the college what great qualities you have. Stick with scouting the knowledge you learn will help prepare you for life and help you someday become a great parent of a scout.
Astronaut program
Of the 312 pilots and scientists selected as astronauts since 1959, 180 were Scouts or have been active in Scouting: 40 Eagle Scouts, 25 Life Scouts, 14 Star Scouts, 26 First Class Scouts, 17 Second Class Scouts, 13 Tenderfoot Scouts, three Explorers, 27 Cub Scouts, 10 Webelos Scouts, and five with unknown ranks.
Of the 12 men to physically walk on the moon's surface, 11 were involved in Scouting. The Boy Scouts of America is proud of America's astronauts.
Congress and Scouting
For the past 18 congressional sessions, the Boy Scouts of America has surveyed the members of the House and Senate regarding their participation in Scouting. Nearly 60 percent of congressional members participated in Scouting.
