Our Troop will be celebrating 50 years in 2007. Our first scout was Mr. Bartholomew who is still an active part of our troop. That's right almost 50 years later! Our leadership has been strong and long. Our dedicated leadership has not only had an active role in our troop but Troop 88 leadership is active members on the district council as well.
We have been involved in planning an annual camporee for the council. Currently our Troopmaster Bill Hall - is Assistant District Commissioner of Fairfield. Our leadership donates their own time to learn about scouting and attend monthly and weekly meetings to better our troop experience for our scouts.
We have had 52 eagle Scouts from our troop, we are a very involved and proud troop. We are well regarded with council and if you join our troop you will be with a very active group. We have been to the National Jamboree since 1941. (check that fact?) National Jamboree happens every four years and this last year our leadership was on the committee for the council and assisted boys from the greater Fairfield County area to get to jamboree.
We have a great youth staff and patrol leaders who run the troop. They teach our younger scouts how to become great leaders. As a troop we work on badges together, last year at the meetings we worked on Emergency Preparness, First Aid, Personal Management, and Gun Safety.
We have traveled to Bermuda to camp, gone to Philmont in New Mexico the mecca of boy scout camps, We have been to the Florida Sea Base, canoe trips in the adirondacks, rock climbing, ice climbing, white water rafting, Philadelphia to visit the Liberty Bell, Boston Freedom Trail, skiing, ice fishing, wilderness survival training, model rockets, catapult balloon wars, bike trips, backpacking, tubing, training courses, youth protection, safe boaters certification, we learn gun safety and go shooting every year, we march in parades, and go to Summer Camp every year.
We are active in the community doing 2-3 service projects a year with can drives, building a barn, clearing a path or cleaning up the Scout camping Areas. Our boys learn how to do so many things we prepare them for life.
